Hey there! A couple of months ago I applied for a position at CollegeHumor. Spoiler Alert, I didn’t get it. But I found the entire process interesting, nonetheless. After applying in December, I waited until mid-January for a response. I received positive response and an illustration test to complete. Below are the specifications:

1. Draw two characters at a bar enjoying a drink together. They can be any two characters, familiar or original, in any bar you want.

2. Re-envision one of your favorite websites as a breakfast cereal (i.e. CollegeHumor Crunch) Use a mixture of Photoshop and drawing to render your project. Don’t forget to include a mascot!

3. Create a fun, infographic map of your room / apartment / house. Use labels and a key!

I waited another week and received a phone call. It was a pre-screening phone interview with one of their HR Representatives. At the end of the call, she scheduled a live interview with the head illustrator and articles editor. A week later I found myself at the IAC building overlooking the beautiful Hudson River. The interview went well, but a week later I found out they went with someone else. Of course! So over the course of about a month and a half, I went through this rigamarole  and came out jobless, but a better artist. Thanks to Caldwell and Susanna for the opportunity!

I just read another artist who was considered who wrote about his experience here.
