THIS IS A YEAR OF MY LIFE. Over 80 pages from my sketchbook, finally collected in one place.
One of the roughest years of my life, written down and spanning from February 2012 - December 2012. Feel free to try and read it, but if not, just look at the pretty pictures! Thank you all for following my tumblr and this project I spent ‘12 doing. You’re so fantastic!
Comedy! Magazines! RE:COM published its sixth issue, available now right here. This is the illustration I did for a column by Jonas Polsky, teaching you how to become a better heckler. It was a fun article, total tongue-in-cheek, but I got to do a cool ninja drawing nonetheless. The challenge I find with doing illustrations for stand-up is trying to find an angle that is more than just a comedian and a microphone. Thanks to my art director and editor Kristy Mangel for the spot!
Check out my site to see Polsky’s accompanying article!
Its been kind of a crazy couple of weeks. I had to retreat this weekend because I was so overwhelmed by it all. New York Comic Con came and went, and it was ridiculous. I go tot reconnect with college professors and other SCAD alums. I found a group of guys to hang with! I havent had one since my college days. Just a bunch of dillhole guys eating pizza on the street, one of my fave things in the world. After months of just hanging out with girls all the time, its ridiculously fun just to be in a group of dudes and being obnoxiously loud, inappropriate, and all-around boyish in public. Seriously, there’s a reason groups of pretty girls get bored with themselves; guys of all types are just entertaining to be around.
Looking forward to:
-My new sketch writing class has a variety of seasoned writers and performers (from The Onion, One Tree Hill, etc, wtf!). I feel so odd being the comic book illustrator in it, but hopefully I can keep up with these guys.
-Louis CK with my best brother
-It’s been almost 6 months since my friend Kate joined comiXology, so I’m looking to celebrate with her over dinner!
-…and of course, November 1st-4th. GAH!
Mad Men March Madness!

Mad Men will be here in less than a week! And it has been off the air for 18 months. Man, am I glad to see it return. I’m a huge fan of the show, the time period, and wanted to somehow celebrate how entertained I am by the series. I have a love for the golden age of comics. Sometimes I wish I was a freelance comic book artist in that era, when comics were new, exciting, and uniquely part of being American. Romance comics were in fact hugely popular in those days, easily surpassing sales of superhero comics. And at some point, they dropped off, were replaced by horror, war, and other genres eventually.

I love the women of Mad Men a lot. Their clothes are amazing and they all look stunningly perfect in every frame. This is a total excuse to draw some of Don’s romances in seasons 3 and 4. In a lot of articles, people tend to talk (or remember) the iconic scenes of season 1 and 2. The smoking of cigarettes, drinking of alcohol, womanizing, subtle racisms, the Belle Jolie campaign etc. But S. 3 and 4 are hardly on people’s memories, and they have some of the best episodes of all time! So I focused on the women of S. 3 and 4, but maybe I’ll revisit this project and get every one of Don’s flings (including Mrs. Barrett and… DORIS!) Next week, I’ll talk about my process (with an OVERLOAD OF MY SKETCHES). #MadMenMarchMadness!
